Feb Whole Kit and Kaboodle is done!

Wow, ever have one of those weeks where you just can't seem to get things done? Not that any one thing has happened, just stuff! So, a bit late but here is my Feb kit and some pics of a few layouts I made from it. If you want to pick one up, they are for sale in my etsy shop! Thanks for looking! As always, all pics are clickable to see a bigger view!

This is the whole kit! LOTS of stuff!
This is the dyed to match flowers, the die cut flowers, and other embellie stuff!
This is a sample of the glittered and flocked papers. Gorgeous!
And this is the other fun stuff! Gotta have ribbons and fibers and more! Oh, my!

Layout 1: My husband and me, Easter, not sure what year, maybe 8 or 9 years ago? Wow, has it really been that long? My sister-in-law took pictures that year of everyone at church that day. She did a really good job!

The bottom picture is our two youngest from the same Easter day. The two top pictures are from the night before. We were the guinea pigs for my sister-in-law setting up her camera and some of the background.
And this one is our son, Lee when he was 3 years old. He turned 27 in Jan! Obviously I don't have issues with being 'behind' on scrapbooking! lol
Page 2 of Lee, Easter, 1985. I included a picture of him with his biological dad.
One more from Easter, 1985. This is me with my son, Lee. For those of you who care, yes I know that there is a grammatical error in the title. But Lee's favorite books as a child were by Mercer Mayer. The titles were all things like, "Just Me and My . . ." whatever the story was. One of his and my girls' favorites was "Just Me and My Mom." I guess I should have included the word 'just' to make it really make sense. Ah, well. It'll do! They'll understand. Hope you will, too!

Saying Goodbye . . .

This morning was a sad time for me and my family. We finally accepted that it was time to say goodbye to an old friend. He has been faithful to us for 14 years! I would like to thank the anonymous person who left him at the vet's door in a shoe box so long ago! We have loved him and he will be missed!

Snow day!

Had fun today working upstairs in my scraproom watching the snow out the window! Then I had to go brush it off of the camelia bushes. I would like it so much better if it happened when it was 70 degrees outside! lol

NEW slide show!

Oh, and CANDY!

I almost forgot! Check out Chelsea's cute stamp candy! These are adorable stamps at Gurlee Girl! You can find her store here: http://gurleegirl.com/

Happy Birthday!

Today is my hubby's birthday! I'm planning to cook a delicious dinner tonight and then we will probably be watching the weather to see if we will be snowed in tomorrow! lol! What ever happened to the sunny south? Did someone move the equator further away from me when I wasn't looking? We average snow in MS about once every 4 years. This is at least the 3rd time this winter! Wow! Hope global warming doesn't get much worse or I'll freeze!

So at any rate, I'll be busy today getting my act together for hubby's dinner tonight but tomorrow, I plan to be in my scrap room ALL DAY!!! I already have lots of cards to get pics of and upload. And I have my Feb Whole Kit and Kaboodle almost ready to post. It's yummy! So check back later this weekend to see it! Happy snow days, all!

Has it really been that long?

Wow, didn't realize it had been that long since I posted! I've had a couple of yucky weeks of being sick off and on and a busy schedule on top of that. So anyway, how about that super bowl? What a great game! I'm really glad the Saints won, but the Colts definitely kept it interesting! My family was pretty evenly divided on which team so it made for a fun day at Mom and Dad's house.

Anyway, I'm extending the Super Bowl Challenge for another week. I didn't think about that people wouldn't have pictures until after the game. (And since I've been sick, I haven't made anything either! lol) So if you get something made and link it here by Monday, 2/15, your name will still go into the drawing for a prize. So, get busy creating! Fun, fun, fun!

Super Bowl Challenge Extended

Just a reminder about the super bowl challenge. I'm extending it to Monday, 2/15.  Remember that any project that you make that has the colors one of the teams and link it here will get your name entered into a drawing for a prize!

Time flies . . .

Wow, it's already the 5th of Feb!  I find it interesting that it seems we spend the first 20 years of our lives wishing for time to go faster, the next 20 years just trying to survive, and then the rest of our lives praying that time will slow down so we can savor every moment. My family has had several milestones over the last year. Our youngest child started college, one daughter got married and turned 21, one son turned 26, one son turned 28, and one daughter turned 30. Also, our grandson turned 4 and I missed his party because of a migraine. Sometimes life circumstances just don't happen at a convenient time!

Yesterday marked another milestone for our little grand-daughter, Jolie, who celebrated her 2nd birthday in December. Jolie was born with a lateral cleft. For those of you who don't know, that is a cleft on the side of the lip, not the center. Fortunately, her palette was in tact, so as clefts go, it was mild. It has been quite an enlightening experience for our family. She had her first surgery at 5 months old, barely 10 pounds, to repair the cleft. Then a few months later had tubes put in her ears and the ear canal enlarged a little on the side where the cleft was. Yesterday she had her annual visit with the cranio-facial team at University Medical Center. (They are an awesome group of people!) All went well and all reports were good! God is so much better to us than we deserve! She still has a follow up with the pediatrician for a scoliosis check, the eye doctor, and with the ENT for her hearing but we are confident that these reports will be good as well.

At any rate, for those of you who read this, I just wanted to say that I'm so thankful for how gracious our heavenly father is! When Jolie was born, they told us that lateral clefts can affect the entire side of the body that the cleft is on. Some of these children are born with no hearing on that side. It can affect their vital organs as well. We know that God works in mysterious ways. Jolie was a preemie weighing only 4 lbs, 9 oz. Her cord was wrapped around her neck 3 times. She was blue when she came out. The labor nurse who was with us said she had never been so nervous in a delivery as she was during Jolie's delivery. I don't know why I felt I needed to share this tonight. But maybe someone just needed to know that even when things seem the bleakest, God is still there. He is faithful. He loves you!  God bless!

This is a picture of Jolie and Brittney New Year's Eve. She really is a doll! (Her mom is pretty cute, too!)

Super Bowl Game challenge

So if you know anything about football, you know that today was a HUGE day! In honor of a great southern boy, Peyton Manning, and a great southern team, the SAINTS, I'm starting a challenge. The challenge will run until Feb. 7th, Super Bowl Sunday. So here are the rules:

Make something in the colors of either the Colts or the Saints. It can be a layout, a card, or an altered item. It doesn't have to be about football, just the colors of the team.

You must use both of the main colors of the team. (Colts - blue and white; Saints - black and old gold)

Adding something that includes their logo gets you an extra entry. (Colts - horseshoe; Saints - fleur de lis)

Items must be linked here on my blog by Feb. 7th.  You can post on your blog or site then link the post here. Or if you don't have a blog, you can email the picture with your info to cropclub@bellsouth.net. If emailing, put Super Bowl Challenge in the title of your email or it will just get deleted with the other spam!

All participants will be entered into a random drawing for a prize from me. Not sure what it is yet since I just decided to do this like 10 minutes ago! lol! But I've been cleaning out my stash and I must say, my prize box has grown into several boxes! Must mean it's time to send out some goodies, huh? Yep!

Winner will be announced by Wed., Feb. 10th.

So, get busy! And I love Peyton, but just gotta say it . . . GO SAINTS!!!

Yea! Laptop is fixed!

Wow, didn't realize how much I actually use my laptop until it got sick and had to go to the computer doctor! (Thanks, Michael!) So trying to catch up now!

A challenge . . .

This card is accomplishing a combination of 3 purposes! Woot!  I'm feeling a little frustrated with trying to get the links on my post! So you can click on Etsy Inspired challenge blog at the right.  You can get to Skylar's Candy Clips from the Etsy Inspired Challenge - since I'm too challenged to get it to post here!

These are the 3 things:
1.  A challenge at Etsy Inspired Challenge #70.  The Etsy inspiration store is Skylar's Candy Clips.  My inspiration piece is this adorable owl hair clip holder.  Isn't it cute? If Jolie (beautiful granddaughter) had enough hair to have hair clips, I might would have to buy it! But, alas, that can wait another year or so. lol

2.  A sketch challenge from somewhere and I can't for the life of me find where I got it from! Man, definitely don't have this whole blog/website/following others thing down! Anyway, here is the sketch.  And if it is yours, please forgive me and tell me who you are!

3. A birthday card for our sweet grandson, Gavin.
So, here it is! My owl birthday card!

I used a combination of the picture of the owl from Skylar's shop and one from a Martha Stewart paper pad.  I paper pieced the owl. The Wh is Colorbok chipboard. The 4 is a foamie.  The pieces of the owl and the cardstock are from the same Martha Stewart pad.  But I stamped the dots on the owl with a background stamp using Tim Holtz Distres ink and then embossed them.  The eyes are just the copy paper from the owl I scanned and printed out to cut up for my patterns. I cut out the glasses and eyes part from my pattern then pressed them into my clear embossing pad. I embossed them with clear embossing powder to give them a sort of "glass" look. Unfortunately since the copy paper is thin, when I heated it, it made the paper a little translucent on the white part of the eyes. This resulted in my glue dots showing through. So we'll just say that's his eyeballs! lol! No "mistakes" in scrapbooking, right? Just new ways of being creative! Heehee! At any rate, Gavin won't care. He'll be much more interested in the pressie than the card!

New cards!

Hola! More cards listed in Etsy shop! Yea! They are from the Martha Stewart glitter card kits. So pretty! Here are a few of them.

Kristina Werner's Color Inspiration Challenge

This is a layout from my kit. In real life it fits perfectly with Kristina's color challenge! lol! I took the picture like 20 times in 3 different places - including outside in the freezing cold! I'm thinking maybe my camera doesn't like red and pink! Gotta love technology, right? Anyway, I love Kristina's blog and all her great video tutorials. Her style is so clean and neat. And her color choices are beautiful! She's a great inspiration!

So here is her picture:

And here is my layout:

This is a layout about my goals and plans for this year. There will be a picture of me on the blue mat. Just haven't gotten around to taking a picture and haven't gotten the pictures from Britt's wedding yet . . . so . . . no recent pics of me!  Anyway, the little cut out with the birds at the bottom is only attached on the side so pic will slip under it.  Now if I can just figure out how to link it the right way to the challenge! lol!

Look at this beautiful card!

My friend, Beth, made this beautiful butterfly card from the Jan Whole Kit and Kaboodle! She used the cardstock butterfly from the kit and traced it onto some of the patterened paper. Then she enlarged that onto the green cardstock, folded the cardstock in half and cut around it to make a card. She used her punches, a couple of chipboard swirlies, a rub-on "Hi", and some bling and viola - a gorgeous butterfly card! She's amazing!

And a lowered price . . .

I re-evaluated my kit and decided with the shipping added it was too much. So I decided to lower the price!

KITS ARE LISTED FOR SALE!!!!

The Whole Kit and Kaboodle kits for Jan are officially listed on ETSY! Click on my etsy link on the right to see!

Preview Pics . . .

Ok, here are some pics of samples I made with the kit I've been working on. Man, this takes forever! lol! But then again, I rarely find the easy way to do anything! ALL PICTURES ARE CLICKABLE SO YOU CAN ENLARGE AND SEE MORE DETAIL.

With that said, I'm learning that people vary in their definition of "kit". To me, KIT means a bunch of stuff that I can do lots with at a great price. But to others it means a package that can be opened, put together, and finished in a snap. Soooo . . . here's the plan.  There will be at least TWO kits I'll be doing each month.

First: The Whole Kit and KaBoodle (congrats on the name, Terri!) will be a package I put together that is just that, a bunch of stuff! I'll do some samples with it to give you ideas but no precutting, measurements, etc.

Second: Kreative Kits (congrats on the name, Joette) will be PAGE kits that you can quickly put together with very little cutting. Hopefully these will be more than once a month but who knows! I may get distracted with other projects and only get one done! lol

SOOOOOO . . .

This is me! In the layout on the right is the little diaper shirt I'm wearing in the picture on the left!  The journaling tells the story but it really is the shirt my grandmother made 50 years ago! Amazing, huh?

This is me, also! My piano teacher in elementary school was Polly Runnels. She never did just plain old recitals. She had productions! Of course I hated it then. But now have fond memories of them.

More pics coming!  And Joette and Terri, please email me your snail mail address so I can get a prize out to you! And Wanda, I may still use your name suggestion. Got an idea brewing with it! Sounds painful, huh?

Card Makers check this out!

If you are a card maker, check out Kristina's blog. She does video turtorials every week for her beautiful cards. Her style is clean and neat with an elegant look that I just adore! You won't be disappointed!

I'm done!

I finally finished all the samples from my first kit! So since it's after 3:00am I think I'll take pictures and post them tomorrow . . . oh, later today, that is.

Thursday, January 7, 2010

Got my first sample layout done with the new kit! Got any old photos lying around that you need to scrapbook? This kit is perfect for that! And yes, pictures coming soon! Now back to creating more samples . . .

Good morning - oh, wait. It isn't morning . . .

Woke up this morning with a migraine. YUK! But had to get on here and see what other suggestions had come in for a name my montly kits.

Ok these are the suggestions so far:
Kreative Kits
The Whole Kit and Kaboodle
Matildy's Blessings

Any others?
I worked on putting the papers and embellishments together yesterday. Paper and ribbon and fun, oh my! Can we say vintage meets family fun? That's the only hint for now!

Keep those suggestions coming! And remember, there's a prize envolved!

Kit of the month ideas . . .

So far I have "Kreative Kits" from Joette. Anyone else have ideas? This is cute. I like it.

So how about this. Everyone who comes up with a catchy title will have their name entered into a drawing for a happy from me. Any other takers? Oh, and you must post the idea here. So, Beth, a text or phone call won't get you in the drawing. (heehee! You know I love you!)

Working on kits . . .

Getting ideas together. This is gonna be fun! More to come soon!

Helloooooooo . . .

Hi and hope everyone is having a great day! I'm feeling a little better today so about to head up to my scraproom to get busy on my FIRST EVER MONTHLY KIT! Yippee!

So yesterday, since I was absolutely miserable, I sat in my scraproom and sorted and organized my ribbon. Decided I might need a 12 step program for my addiction! lol! It took me all day! I did stop to watch football with hubby. And I was sick. So I'm using that as my excuse for it to take so long! Of course, I haven't even started on my Christmas ribbon that is still out all over the room AND I haven't even unpacked all the stuff my friend Beth and I bought Sat on our clearance shopping spree!

Oh, dear. Now I"m going to need to add more drawers to the ribbon storage . . . dum de dum dum dum . . .

Sunday morning blahs . . .

I am not supposed to be here on the computer. I'm supposed to be at church enjoying my wonderful hubby's worship leading. But no. I'm here with a stuffy nose, sore throat, feel like my head is going to explode, apparently caught the crud blahs. UGH! Oh, well, guess I couldn't avoid it forever! Wouldn't want to feel left out, now would I?

At any rate, tomorrow I start working on kits. Still need a name! Any suggestions???

New Pics

These are journals I made for presents for family members. They make great personalized gifts and are really quite simple to make.

This is one I made for my nephew. I wanted it to be masculine. The paper I used has a look that resembles leather. On the inside I used vintage looking postcard paper. I made the closure with some yarn and a door knob embellishment. The letter is grungeboard colored with pigment markers.

This one I made for my neice. The colors are bad in the picture but she said her favorite colors are pink, green, black, and orange. Nice that I just happened to have paper with those exact colors! The K is grungeboard that I embossed with orange then coated with paper glaze. This embossing powder is different from other that I have used and gives a sort of distressed look.

This one I made for my son's girlfriend. Her favorite colors are blue and green. I did the L just like the K only I added paper glaze to give it a shine.

This one was for my daughter, who got married in Oct. The purple paper and ribbon are from her wedding invitations. So this one was fun for me. The B is the same as the L, grungeboard colored with pigment pens and then paper glaze applied. So here's a word of advice when using paper glaze. Don't wait until the night before you have to have it completed to use it! I was doing this is about 3 am on Christmas Eve for the gift giving at my mom's that night! That's why the B looks white. It isn't a glare. It just hasn't cured! So when using it, don't worry if that happens. It will eventually clear up - sometimes long after it hardens to the touch. When completely cured it creates a hard acrylic finish that is really amazing!

This is a new take on a "gift" card! My son asked for money for Christmas so this is what I came up with. It isn't original but I can't remember where I saw the idea. (So if it was you, please forgive me for not giving you credit! And feel free to post your original here!)  The inside of the card tells you to slide the two largest Christmas trees off their paper clip 'trunks' for a surprise. You can see in one of the pictures that the trees have a small lip that is folded back to hold the money and to give a 3-d look to them. I tacked the paper clips on at the top with some quilting thread to hold them in place. The trees are embellished with stickles and flocking.

Hope you enjoyed looking at these. And feel free to ask any questions!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Well, I'm finally home and it's finally here! The new decade! Beginning this month, I plan to have some really fun goodies for my scrapbook friends!  And I need your help! I need all of you to pass the word for me. And start posting here! So here are the things I am planning and need your help with!

1. Kit of the Month:  I'm working next week on getting a January Kit of the Month together.  My plan is to have a page kit each month. What I need from you is some catchy name ideas. "Kit of the Month" just sounds so, well, ordinary! So put your creative thinking caps on and make suggestions!

2. Challenge of the Month:  This requires you to pull out all that stuff you're hoarding and make something! Heehee! But it will also require you to take pictures and upload them here! The bonus is that there will be prizes! Yep, you heard right, PRIZES!!! So, check back each day to see what's going on with that. I hope to have this up by Monday.  So . . . uploading your pictures of your beautiful creations isn't required to play along . . . but . . . then you won't be entered in a drawing for fun prizes either! We're going to start off small. So no stress! Ha! As the entries increase, so will the prizes. So pass the word, scrappers! Who doesn't love free stuff!

Down the road, I also plan to have card making kits. But there are only so many hours in the day, ya know? Oh, so many ideas, so little time!

Hope this decade is one of great blessings for you and your family! And lots of creative fun along the way!
